I left Thursday, flew into KC, and by Friday I was already at Rally House picking up new game day gear. No wasted time.

Friday night was family night, catching up with the people who've had Chiefs season tickets for years. Between now and Monday, I'm planning to see as much of KC and as many friends as I possibly can, soaking in every bit of the lead-up before the season actually starts

Here's the thing about moving away: you don't realize how much you miss the buildup itself until you're back in it. It's not just the game anymore, it's the whole week, and since I moved away what feels like a lifetime ago, this lead-up is more exciting this year being in Kansas City. Every stop, every familiar face, just getting hyped up for the game, feels bigger than it used to.

Kansas City is also about to be the center of the entire NFL world for a day. ESPN is running nearly nine hours of live programming out of the city, including The Pat McAfee Show broadcasting live from KC and NFL Live airing straight from inside Arrowhead.

I'll be at the tailgate hours before kickoff, and that's exactly where I want to be. More on that soon.

Let's go, Chiefs Kingdom.

If I see you at the tailgate I would love to hear your Season Opener traditions.
